About the Beach

Sapounochoma is a tiny and very remote beach located on the southern coast of Ios, accessible only by boat or a challenging hike. The name translates roughly to "soapy soil," which refers to the unique white clay found in the surrounding rocks. The beach is a mix of sand and pebbles, and the water is an intense, bright blue that is exceptionally clear. Because it is so difficult to reach, it is one of the most private spots on the island, often completely empty even in the peak of summer. There are no facilities or shade, so you must be fully prepared with your own supplies. The surrounding cliffs provide a dramatic backdrop and a sense of total seclusion from the rest of the world.
