About the Beach

Vathy is the heart of Ithaca, and while it is primarily a bustling harbor town, it offers several small and charming swimming spots along its coastal road. These areas are mostly pebbled and provide incredibly clear water with a great view of the yachts and traditional boats gliding in and out of the deep bay. It is a very practical choice for a quick swim if you are staying in the town and don't want to travel far. You are never more than a few steps away from the island's best cafes, shops, and tavernas. The water remains surprisingly clean despite the boat traffic, and the surrounding neoclassical buildings give the swim a very unique and elegant backdrop. It is a great place to cool off in the morning while the town wakes up or for a final sunset dip before heading out for dinner.
