History

Holy Apostles Mission of Greenville, North Carolina brings Eastern Orthodox worship to the eastern reaches of North Carolina, a region of the state that has historically had little Orthodox Christian presence. The mission parish serves all of eastern North Carolina under the auspices of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America in the Metropolis of Atlanta, with services held alternately at its Winterville location and at Old Saint Paul's in New Bern, extending the reach of the ancient faith across a wide geographic area of the Carolina coastal plain.

The mission was served beginning in July 2009 by Father Dionysios Listermann-Vierling, who established the community's liturgical life. Since 2011 the parish has been served by Father Regis Alexoudis. All services are conducted in English, reflecting the mission's commitment to making Orthodox Christianity accessible to all who seek it in eastern North Carolina regardless of ethnic background.

Now known as Holy Cross Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church, the mission at Greenville serves as an outpost of the ancient faith in one of the most historically underserved Orthodox regions of the American South, committed to sharing the message of the Gospel with the broader communities of Greenville, Winterville, New Bern, and the surrounding counties of eastern Carolina.
