History

Saint Katherine Greek Orthodox Church of Redondo Beach, California has served the Orthodox Christian faithful of Los Angeles County's South Bay for several decades, growing from its origins as a local community of Greek Orthodox faithful into one of the most prominent Greek Orthodox parishes in the greater Los Angeles area. The parish is dedicated to Saint Katherine of Alexandria, the third-century martyr celebrated for her extraordinary beauty, learning, and fidelity to Christ, who silenced the philosophers sent to debate and refute her faith and was martyred rather than renounce her Lord, her feast day celebrated on November 25.

Situated at 722 Knob Hill Avenue on a tight South Bay site overlooking Redondo Beach, the parish campus has been significantly expanded and transformed over the years through a series of renovation phases, incorporating traditional Greek Orthodox architectural elements, Byzantine design motifs, stained glass, and a redesigned interior courtyard fashioned to evoke a Greek streetscape, giving the campus a distinctive character that reflects both the ancient tradition of Orthodox Christian worship and its deep roots in the South Bay community. The annual South Bay Greek Festival, hosted on the church grounds, has grown into one of the most beloved Hellenic cultural celebrations in the greater Los Angeles area, drawing the broader community to Knob Hill Avenue each year for Greek food, music, dance, and the hospitality for which the parish is known.
