History

Saint Luke Greek Orthodox Church of Broomall, Pennsylvania was established in 1962, founded to serve the growing Greek Orthodox population of Delaware County as Greek families moved from Philadelphia into the western suburbs. From its founding the parish has grown steadily over more than six decades, building a full parish life of worship, education, and community outreach at its home at 35 North Malin Road.

 

The church is dedicated to Saint Luke the Evangelist, the Apostle and physician who wrote the Gospel that bears his name and the Acts of the Apostles, and who is venerated throughout the Orthodox Church as the patron saint of physicians and artists. The parish's mission, as its own community articulates it, is to worship and glorify God, to proclaim and teach the Orthodox Christian faith and traditions, to bear witness to the Gospel of Jesus Christ through community outreach, and to act in fellowship with love toward one another, a statement of purpose that has guided the parish's life since its founding.

 

The parish is a vibrant Pan-Orthodox community welcoming faithful from many nationalities and backgrounds, with a second priest serving the Georgian Orthodox faithful who join the community for worship, a reflection of the universal character of the ancient Orthodox faith as lived at Saint Luke's in Delaware County.
