Getting from Agathonisi to Santorini

If you are heading to Santorini from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to the most iconic island in Greece, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It has caldera views, volcanic beaches and the ancient Minoan site of Akrotiri preserved under volcanic ash.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Santorini. Getting there means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then taking the Piraeus to Santorini ferry, which takes around 5 to 9 hours depending on the vessel, with up to 9 daily departures in summer. Total journey by this route takes the better part of a day.

Getting there by air

Santorini has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Santorini takes around 50 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 5 to 6 hours and is the most practical approach for most travelers.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos and fly to Santorini via Athens. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, fly to Athens and take the conventional ferry from Piraeus to Santorini, which takes your vehicle directly to Athinios port. Book well ahead in July and August as Santorini ferry and flight spaces fill up fast.
