Getting from Rhodes to Chios
If you are heading to Chios from Rhodes you are making your way to an island in the northeastern Aegean, close to the Turkish coast. It is famous above all for its mastic trees in the south of the island that produce a resin found nowhere else on earth.
Take the ferry
There is a direct ferry from Rhodes to Chios running several times a week, taking around 9 to 12 hours. It connects the two islands without going through Athens but is a long trip. Check the schedule before planning around it and build your travel dates around the available departures.
Getting there by air
Both Rhodes and Chios have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Chios takes around 50 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly via Athens. At around 3 to 4 hours total it is considerably faster than the 9 to 12 hour ferry. If you want the sea journey and have the time the direct ferry is an option, but flying is the right choice for most people.
