Getting from Rhodes to Astypalaia

If you are heading to Astypalaia from Rhodes you are making your way to an island to the northwest, sitting between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese. It is shaped like a butterfly, with a Chora topped by a Venetian castle that is one of the finest in the Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Rhodes to Astypalaia running a few times a week, taking around 5 to 7 hours. It connects the two islands without going through Athens. Check the schedule before planning around it as the frequency is limited and your travel dates need to align with the available departures.

Getting there by air

Astypalaia has its own small airport with connections from Athens. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Astypalaia takes around 1 hour. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry if the schedule works for your dates. It connects the two islands without going through Athens. If the timing does not align, fly via Athens.
