Getting from Rhodes to Volos
If you are heading to Volos from Rhodes you are making your way to a city on the Pagasetic Gulf at the foot of the Pelion peninsula in Thessaly, in the central mainland of Greece.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Volos. Getting there means taking the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus and then travelling by road north to Volos, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours from Athens.
Getting there by air
Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos, around 20 kilometres from the city, with connections from Athens. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Nea Anchialos takes around 45 minutes. Check availability before planning around it as connections are limited. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and either take the connecting flight to Nea Anchialos if it is available, or drive or take the train to Volos, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours from Athens. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then drive north to Volos from Athens.
