About the Beach
Manganitis is a dramatically rugged and beautiful area located on the southwestern coast of the island, where the giant granite cliffs drop sharply into the Aegean. The village area itself features a small, pebbly cove that is perfectly protected from the winds, offering incredibly transparent and deep water. It has a very raw and authentic character, as it was only connected to the rest of the island by road in recent decades. The atmosphere here is quiet and untouched, with a few small tavernas nearby that serve local specialties in a very relaxed setting. It is a fantastic choice for those who want to experience the wilder, more mountainous side of Ikaria while enjoying a very calm and private swim. The surrounding scenery of massive rocks and blue sea is unlike anything else on the island, providing a real sense of being at the edge of the world.
