About the Beach

Messakti is arguably the most iconic beach on Ikaria, offering a massive stretch of fine golden sand that feels incredibly wide and open. It is a world-famous destination for surfers because it catches the northern winds, creating consistent waves that are great for both beginners and pros. The beach is well-organized with several bars, sunbeds, and a surfing school, giving it a very lively and social atmosphere. Two small rivers flow into the sea at either end of the bay, creating cool freshwater lagoons that are fun to explore. Despite its popularity, the beach is so large that it never feels truly crowded.
