About the Beach

Vathi Limenari Beach is a very special and historic spot on the south coast of Donoussa where the ruins of an ancient geometric settlement were found on the rocky hills right above the water. The beach is tucked into a narrow and deep bay which makes the water stay very flat and quiet like a giant swimming pool, and the sand is mixed with small white pebbles that make the water look even brighter. It is quite a long walk to get here from the main village, but the path takes you through some of the most beautiful and wild scenery on the island with great views of the ocean. Because it is so protected and hidden, it is a very peaceful place to swim while thinking about the people who lived in the stone houses on the cliffs thousands of years ago, and the water is so transparent that you can see every little rock on the bottom.
