History
Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church has been serving the Orthodox Christian faithful of the South Carolina Lowcountry since 1990. Its beginnings were as humble as any mission church could be, with early services held in a parishioner's living room on Hilton Head Island. As the community grew, Divine Liturgies moved to conference rooms at local hotels, and for a brief period Christ Lutheran Church generously hosted Orthodox services on Saturdays.
In 1995 the parish established a more stable home on the second floor of Heritage Plaza on Hilton Head Island, where parishioners and visitors worshipped together for eleven years. In September 2007 the community continued its growth by relocating services to St. Andrew's Chapel at 220 Pinckney Colony Road in Bluffton, South Carolina, where it has worshipped since.
Holy Resurrection has always been a Pan-Orthodox community in the truest sense, with its Divine Liturgy celebrated in English and its parish family drawn from many nationalities including Armenian, Bulgarian, Greek, Lebanese, Palestinian, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, and Syrian. That breadth of Orthodox witness, rooted in a small island mission and grown steadily through the faithfulness of its members, reflects the ancient universality of the Orthodox Christian faith.
Today, Holy Resurrection Greek Orthodox Church serves the Hilton Head and Bluffton area as a parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta within the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, welcoming all who seek the Orthodox Christian faith along the Carolina coast.
