History

Sts. Theodoroi Greek Orthodox Church of Gloversville, New York has served the Orthodox Christian faithful of Fulton County for generations, bringing the ancient faith of the Eastern Church to one of the Mohawk Valley's historic glove-making communities. Gloversville, whose economy was built on the leather and glove industry that made it famous across the country in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, was home to a Greek immigrant population that established the Saints Theodoroi community to preserve their Orthodox Christian faith and Hellenic heritage in the heart of upstate New York.

 

The parish is dedicated to the two Holy Great Martyrs Theodore, Saints Theodore Tiron and Theodore Stratelates, whose shared feast day is celebrated with great solemnity in the Orthodox Church on the first Saturday of Great Lent and on February 17 and February 8 respectively. Their dedication to the Christian faith in the face of persecution and their veneration as powerful intercessors have made them beloved patrons throughout the Greek Orthodox world.
