Getting from Aegina to Agathonisi

If you are heading to Agathonisi from Aegina you are making your way to a small island in the northern Dodecanese group, close to the Turkish coast between Samos and Patmos. It has good beaches and an atmosphere of complete calm.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Agathonisi. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then flying to Athens and connecting to either Samos or Leros for the local ferry to Agathonisi. The island is connected to the wider network through Patmos, Samos and Leros, with local ferry connections running a few times a week in summer.

Getting there by air

Agathonisi has no airport. The nearest airports are Samos and Leros. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, then the metro to Athens Airport, then flying to Samos or Leros, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi takes around 6 to 7 hours in total.

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, fly to Samos or Leros and take the local ferry across to Agathonisi. Check the schedule before booking your flights as the connection to Agathonisi runs only a few times a week in summer and less in winter. Come entirely self-sufficient as the island has almost no facilities.
