Getting from Aegina to Igoumenitsa

If you are heading to Igoumenitsa from Aegina you are making your way to a city on the Epirus coast in the northwestern part of Greece, facing the Ionian Sea with a backdrop of mountains and easy access to some of the finest landscapes in the country.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Igoumenitsa. The most practical ferry approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travel by road northwest to Igoumenitsa, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens via Patras and the Rio-Antirrio bridge.

Getting there by air

Igoumenitsa has no airport. The nearest airport is Ioannina, around 83 kilometres to the east. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Ioannina, followed by a bus or taxi to Igoumenitsa taking around 1 hour, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and take the KTEL bus to Igoumenitsa, which runs several times daily from Athens Kifissos terminal and takes around 5.5 to 6 hours. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry from Aegina already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive northwest to Igoumenitsa via Patras and the Rio-Antirrio bridge.
