Getting from Paros to Heraklion

If you are heading to Heraklion from Paros you are making your way from the heart of the Cyclades to the capital of Crete and the gateway to one of the richest archaeological landscapes in the world, with the Palace of Knossos just 5 kilometres from the city centre and one of the finest archaeological museums in Greece in the city itself.

Take the ferry

There is a direct seasonal ferry from Paros to Heraklion running in summer, taking around 3 to 5 hours depending on the vessel. The route is not year-round so check the schedule before planning around it. Outside of the summer season the connection goes via Piraeus or Santorini. Book ahead in July and August.

Getting there by air

Both Paros and Heraklion have airports. There are no direct flights between the two islands. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. All connections go via Athens, which adds significant time compared to the direct summer ferry.

Your best option

Take the direct summer ferry from Paros when it is running. It is the most practical and enjoyable approach. If the direct service is not available for your dates, fly via Athens or take the ferry to Santorini and connect to Heraklion from there.
