Getting from Rhodes to Spetses
If you are heading to Spetses from Rhodes you are making your way to a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf, to the northwest. It has neoclassical mansions around the harbour and a strong nautical tradition that played a significant role in the Greek War of Independence.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Spetses. Getting there means taking the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus and then connecting onto the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Spetses, which takes around 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours.
Getting there by air
Spetses has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Spetses takes around 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Spetses. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice as it saves the cost and complexity of shipping a vehicle separately.
