Getting from Rhodes to Hydra
If you are heading to Hydra from Rhodes you are making your way to a car-free island in the Saronic Gulf, to the northwest. It has elegant stone mansions built by sea captains, exceptionally clear water and a quality of silence unlike anywhere else within easy reach of Athens.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Hydra. Getting there means taking the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus and then connecting onto the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Hydra, which takes around 1 hour 10 minutes to 2 hours with up to 11 daily departures.
Getting there by air
Hydra has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Hydra takes around 1 hour 10 minutes to 2 hours. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Hydra. It is the most practical approach and the arrival into Hydra port is one of the best in Greece. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice as Hydra itself is car-free so you would need to leave your vehicle in Piraeus or at a mainland port.
