Getting from Rhodes to Thessaloniki
If you are heading to Thessaloniki from Rhodes you are making your way to the second largest city in Greece, in the north of the country.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Thessaloniki. The two are not connected by sea and the indirect routing via Piraeus and the northern Aegean takes the better part of two days. Flying is the only practical option.
Getting there by air
Both Rhodes and Thessaloniki have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Thessaloniki takes around 55 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. A direct seasonal flight between Rhodes and Thessaloniki may also be available so check before routing through Athens. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights on most routes.
Your best option
Fly via Athens or direct if the seasonal service is available. It is the only realistic approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then drive north via the E75 motorway to Thessaloniki, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens.
