Getting from Rhodes to Kavala
If you are heading to Kavala from Rhodes you are making your way to a port city in northern Greece, on the Macedonian coast. It has a Byzantine castle above the harbour and the archaeological site of Philippi just 15 kilometres inland.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Kavala. Getting there means taking the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus and then either flying or driving northeast to Kavala, which takes around 6 to 7 hours from Athens via the E75 motorway.
Getting there by air
Both Rhodes and Kavala have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Kavala takes around 1 hour 15 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly via Athens. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then drive northeast via the E75 motorway to Kavala.
