About the Beach
Plakias Beach is an enormous and impressive beach on the south coast of Crete that is famous for a giant vertical cliff called Paligremnos that stands at one end like a massive stone wall reaching up toward the sky. The beach is so long that it takes a long time to walk from one side to the other, and the sand is a mix of gold and gray colors that looks beautiful against the dark blue water of the Libyan Sea that stretches out toward Africa. It is a very social place with lots of tavernas and shops nearby, and the huge cliff is a popular spot for people who like to watch climbers or see the sunset turn the rocks a bright orange and red color in the evening.
