About the Beach

Preveli Beach is a spectacular and famous spot on the south coast of Crete where a big river called the Kourtaliotis flows through a forest of palm trees and ends right in the middle of a sandy beach. You can spend your time swimming in the salty sea and then walk just a few steps to rinse off in the cool fresh water of the river while being surrounded by tall green palms and massive cliffs. It is a bit of a hike to get down the stone steps from the parking lot, but once you get there, it feels like a tropical paradise hidden at the bottom of a giant canyon where the water is always fresh and the scenery is unlike anything else on the island.
