About the Beach
Sfakaki Beach is a very long and wide beach made of sand and small pebbles located just a few kilometers east of the city of Rethymno that is known for being a very important place for the Caretta-Caretta sea turtles. During the summer, these big turtles come out of the ocean at night to lay their eggs in the sand, so you will often see small wooden cages protecting the nests so that people do not accidentally step on them. The beach is very open and has plenty of space for long walks, and because there are many hotels nearby, you can find lots of fun things to do like water sports or eating at a seaside cafe while watching the sunset.
