Getting from Aegina to Folegandros

If you are heading to Folegandros from Aegina you are making your way to a small clifftop island in the southern Cyclades with a Chora perched on the edge of a sheer drop above the sea and an atmosphere of genuine calm.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Folegandros. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then board the Piraeus to Folegandros ferry, which runs 2 to 3 times daily in summer and takes around 4 to 8 hours depending on the vessel and the stops along the way.

Getting there by air

Folegandros has no airport. The nearest airport is Santorini. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Santorini, followed by the short ferry from Santorini to Folegandros taking around 45 to 50 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. The ferry from Piraeus is often more practical given its frequency and direct connection.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Folegandros ferry. It is the most direct and practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the conventional ferry from Piraeus takes your vehicle and is the practical choice.
