Getting from Aegina to Ios
If you are heading to Ios from Aegina you are making your way to an island in the southern Cyclades with some of the finest beaches in the group and a Chora above the port that comes alive in the evening.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Ios. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then board one of the frequent Piraeus to Ios ferries. Fast catamarans take around 4 to 5 hours and conventional ferries take around 7 to 8 hours, with multiple daily departures in summer.
Getting there by air
Ios has no airport. The nearest airport is Santorini. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Santorini, followed by the short ferry from Santorini to Ios taking around 35 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours.
Your best option
Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Ios ferry. The fast catamaran at around 4 to 5 hours is a manageable daytime connection. If you are travelling with a car, the conventional ferry from Piraeus to Ios takes your vehicle and is the practical choice.
