Getting from Aegina to Kalamata

If you are heading to Kalamata from Aegina you are making your way to the capital of Messenia in the southern Peloponnese, with a renovated waterfront, good food and easy access to the Mani peninsula and the Byzantine ruins of Mystras.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Kalamata. Kalamata has no regular passenger ferry connections from the Saronic network. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travelling by road south through the Peloponnese, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours from Athens.

Getting there by air

Both Kalamata and Athens have airports. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Kalamata takes around 50 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and fly to Kalamata. It is the fastest approach. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry from Aegina already puts you at Piraeus with your vehicle, then drive south through the Peloponnese via Corinth and Tripoli to Kalamata.
