Getting from Aegina to Koufonisia
If you are heading to Koufonisia from Aegina you are making your way to one of the Small Cyclades islands, with some of the finest beaches in the Cyclades and a lively summer atmosphere that punches well above its size.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Koufonisia. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then board the Piraeus to Koufonisia ferry, which runs daily in summer and takes around 5 to 8 hours. Koufonisia is also well connected via Naxos, with the short ferry from Naxos taking around 45 minutes and running frequently in summer.
Getting there by air
Koufonisia has no airport. The nearest airport is Naxos. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Naxos, followed by the short ferry to Koufonisia taking around 45 minutes, gives a total journey time of around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and fly to Naxos, then take the short ferry across to Koufonisia. It is the most time efficient approach. If you are travelling with a car, take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and board the conventional ferry from Piraeus directly to Koufonisia. Book ahead in summer as the island fills up fast.
