Getting from Aegina to Mykonos

If you are heading to Mykonos from Aegina you are making your way to the most cosmopolitan island in the Cyclades, with a maze of whitewashed lanes above the port, long beaches on the south coast and some of the best beach clubs in Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Mykonos. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then board the Piraeus to Mykonos ferry, which runs multiple daily crossings in summer and takes around 2 to 2.5 hours on the fast catamaran and 5 to 7 hours on a conventional vessel. Alternatively, take the metro from Piraeus to Athens Airport and connect to Rafina, where the fast catamaran to Mykonos takes around 1 hour 50 minutes. Book ahead in July and August as this is one of the most popular routes in the Aegean.

Getting there by air

Mykonos has an international airport with daily connections from Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Mykonos takes around 40 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and board the fast ferry to Mykonos from either Piraeus or Rafina. If you are short on time, fly via Athens. If you are travelling with a car, the conventional ferry from Piraeus takes your vehicle directly to Mykonos New Port.
