Getting from Aegina to Naxos

If you are heading to Naxos from Aegina you are making your way to the largest island in the Cyclades, in the central Aegean. It has a medieval Venetian town above the port, long sandy beaches on the west coast and a mountainous interior of marble villages.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Naxos. The most practical approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then board one of the frequent Piraeus to Naxos ferries. Fast catamarans take around 3 hours 20 minutes and conventional ferries take around 5 to 5.5 hours, with up to 7 daily departures in summer.

Getting there by air

Both Naxos and Athens have airports. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Naxos takes around 45 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Naxos ferry. It is the most practical and enjoyable approach. The fast catamaran at around 3 hours 20 minutes is manageable as a daytime connection. If you are travelling with a car, the conventional ferry from Piraeus to Naxos takes your vehicle and is the practical choice.
