Getting from Aegina to Samos
If you are heading to Samos from Aegina you are making your way to an island in the northeastern Aegean, close to the Turkish coast. It is green and mountainous with wine production dating back to antiquity and the UNESCO-listed Heraion sanctuary.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Samos. The most practical ferry approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then board the Piraeus to Samos ferry, which runs 6 times a week and takes around 8 to 11 hours. Samos has two main ports, Vathy in the northeast and Karlovassi in the northwest, so check which port your ferry arrives at before booking accommodation.
Getting there by air
Samos has an international airport with connections from Athens. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Samos takes around 50 minutes in the air. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours and is the most practical approach for most travellers.
Your best option
Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and fly to Samos. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Samos overnight ferry, which takes your vehicle and arrives in the morning.
