Getting from Naxos to Kalymnos

If you are heading to Kalymnos from Naxos you are making your way to an island in the Dodecanese group. It is known above all for its sponge diving tradition and its status as one of the premier rock climbing destinations in Europe.

Take the ferry

There is no regular direct ferry from Naxos to Kalymnos. An occasional Blue Star Ferries connection exists but the frequency is very limited and the routing goes via Astypalaia, taking around 7 hours. For most travellers flying via Athens is the more practical approach.

Getting there by air

Both Naxos and Kalymnos have airports. Flying from Naxos to Athens takes around 45 minutes and then Athens to Kalymnos takes around 1 hour. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly via Athens. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, take the ferry from Naxos to Piraeus and then connect to Kalymnos from there.
