Getting from Naxos to Kavala

If you are heading to Kavala from Naxos you are making your way to a port city in northern Greece, on the Macedonian coast. It has a Byzantine castle above the harbour and the archaeological site of Philippi just 15 kilometres inland.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Naxos to Kavala. Getting there means taking the ferry from Naxos to Piraeus and then either flying or driving northeast to Kavala, which takes around 6 to 7 hours from Athens via the E75 motorway.

Getting there by air

Both Naxos and Kavala have airports. Flying from Naxos to Athens takes around 45 minutes and then Athens to Kavala takes around 1 hour 15 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly via Athens. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, take the ferry from Naxos to Piraeus and then drive northeast via the E75 motorway to Kavala.
