Getting from Rhodes to Agathonisi

If you are heading to Agathonisi from Rhodes you are making your way to a small island in the northern Dodecanese group, close to the Turkish coast between Samos and Patmos. It has good beaches and an atmosphere of complete calm.

Take the ferry

There is a direct ferry from Rhodes to Agathonisi running a few times a week, taking around 7 to 9 hours. The island is also connected through Patmos and Leros via local ferry connections. Check the schedule before planning around it as the frequency is limited and your travel dates need to align with the available departures.

Getting there by air

Agathonisi has no airport. The nearest airports are Samos and Leros. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Leros takes around 50 minutes, followed by the local ferry to Agathonisi taking around 1 to 2 hours. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the direct ferry if the schedule works for your dates. It connects the two islands without going through Athens. If the timing does not align, fly via Athens to Leros and take the local ferry across to Agathonisi. Come entirely self-sufficient as the island has almost no facilities.
