Getting from Aegina to Katerini

If you are heading to Katerini from Aegina you are making your way to a city at the foot of Mount Olympus on the Pierian coast of northern Greece.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Katerini. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travelling north to Katerini by road or rail, which takes around 4 to 4.5 hours from Athens.

Getting there by air

Katerini has no airport. The nearest airport is Thessaloniki, around 70 kilometres to the north. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then flying from Athens to Thessaloniki, followed by a bus or drive to Katerini, is the fastest overall approach. Total travel time is around 5 to 6 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then either take the train or drive north to Katerini. The Hellenic Train intercity service from Athens Larissa station takes around 4 hours and is a good journey. If you are travelling with a car, drive north via the E75 motorway from Athens to Katerini, which takes around 4 to 4.5 hours.
