Getting from Naxos to Athens
If you are heading to Athens from Naxos you are making your way to the capital of Greece.
Take the ferry
The Naxos to Piraeus ferry is one of the most heavily served routes in the Cyclades, with up to 6 daily departures in summer and several per week year-round. Fast catamarans cover the distance in around 3 hours 20 minutes. Conventional ferries take around 5 to 5.5 hours. From Piraeus the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens. Book ahead in July and August.
Getting there by air
Both Naxos and Athens have airports. The flight from Naxos to Athens takes around 45 minutes. Flying is the fastest option but the ferry delivers you directly to Piraeus without the need for airport transfers.
Your best option
Take the ferry if you have the time. The fast catamaran at around 3 hours 20 minutes is a manageable and enjoyable trip. If you are short on time or have a connecting flight, fly. If you are travelling with a car, the ferry is the only practical option as it takes your vehicle directly to Piraeus.
