Getting from Rhodes to Alexandroupoli
If you are heading to Alexandroupoli from Rhodes you are making your way to the far northeastern corner of Greece, a city on the Thracian coast close to the Turkish border and the gateway to Samothrace.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Alexandroupoli. The city is a northern Aegean mainland port with no connection to the Dodecanese ferry network. Flying is the only practical option.
Getting there by air
Both Rhodes and Alexandroupoli have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Alexandroupoli takes around 1 hour 15 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly via Athens. It is the only realistic approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then drive northeast via the E75 and Egnatia motorway to Alexandroupoli, which takes around 8 to 9 hours from Athens.
