Getting from Rhodes to Chania
If you are heading to Chania from Rhodes you are making your way to the most beautiful city in Crete, to the southwest. It has a Venetian old town wrapped around a harbour that has been in use for over three thousand years and the White Mountains rising steeply behind it.
Take the ferry
There is a direct overnight ferry from Rhodes to Heraklion running year-round, taking around 9 to 12 hours. Chania is around 60 kilometres west of Heraklion, so from Heraklion a bus or taxi to Chania takes around 1 to 1.5 hours. Check whether a direct Rhodes to Chania seasonal service is available before routing via Heraklion.
Getting there by air
Both Rhodes and Chania have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Chania takes around 50 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. A direct seasonal flight between Rhodes and Chania may also be available so check before routing through Athens.
Your best option
Check whether the direct Rhodes to Chania flight is available for your dates. If it is, take it. If not, fly via Athens. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Heraklion is the practical choice, then drive west to Chania from there.
