Getting from Rhodes to Kalamata

If you are heading to Kalamata from Rhodes you are making your way to the capital of Messenia in the southern Peloponnese, to the northwest. It has a renovated waterfront, good food and easy access to the Mani peninsula and the Byzantine ruins of Mystras.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Kalamata. Getting there means taking the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus and then travelling by road south through the Peloponnese, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours from Athens.

Getting there by air

Both Rhodes and Kalamata have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Kalamata takes around 50 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly via Athens. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then drive south through the Peloponnese to Kalamata.
