Getting from Rhodes to Monemvasia
If you are heading to Monemvasia from Rhodes you are making your way to a medieval fortress town on the southeastern Peloponnese coast, to the northwest. It is built entirely on a massive rock connected to the mainland by a single causeway with Byzantine churches and narrow lanes that have changed little in centuries.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Monemvasia. Getting there means taking the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus and then driving south through the Peloponnese, which takes around 4 hours from Athens.
Getting there by air
Monemvasia has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then the drive to Monemvasia takes around 4 hours. Total travel time is around 6 to 7 hours.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and drive to Monemvasia. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then drive south through the Peloponnese to Monemvasia.
